ANIMAL PEST MANAGEMENT WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Council has been grappling with the integration and rationalisation of pest animal control within the amalgamated Council in a background of shifting state government attitudes and funding. Control of wild dogs and dingoes can be an emotive & financially expensive issue, and evoke different views from ratepayers. The GRC believes that the best value for money is obtained through placing the highest priority on maintaining the Dingo fence, followed by baiting programs and least important is broadscale trapping. Position Statements are currently being developed and will provide information to landholders on community based programs and activities carried out by Council, which have significance for the rural districts within our local government area. The statements will be available on Council’s website or customer service centres from next week. In the meantime, tell us what you think!

  1. We believe council have embraced our dingo problem in the "Locarno" area 55 km east of Goondiwindi. It is believed there are only a few dogs in this district. It is imperitive that this area be controlled as it has only just became a problem in the last six months. Robert Cox the shire trapper has been a wonderful support to the community in embracing this problem. It is great to see ratepayers money being put to onground works. The value of our sheep has increased dramatically so the support is desperately needed with the decline in rural industry as the result of drought. When the family returned to the sheep industry after eight years a major decision was made to electrify all sheep paddocks with "double electrified fences". This was to deter all dingos. Kerimbilla Forestry and Bendidee Forestry are very close to "Locarno". It is important council continue to work with us to ellivate any potential problem. The community is very grateful council is working with us! It is important council continue to do so!
